Every Cannabis Reference in South Park

South Park, which launched its first episode in 1997, has been an enduring hit for nearly three decades.

The show, which has never shied away from controversy or controversial subjects, has repeatedly referenced marijuana through one-off drug jokes, Towelie’s stoner persona and the long-running Tegridy Farms storyline. Below is an updated breakdown of the show’s major marijuana-related references, including the South Park movie and streaming specials.

Season 2, Episode 4 – “Ike’s Wee Wee”

Mr. Mackey brings a marijuana cigarette to class for an anti-drug lecture, only for it to go missing. After he’s blamed and fired, his life quickly spirals, eventually leading him to experiment with drugs himself. The episode helped cement his “Drugs are bad, m’kay?” catchphrase.

Season 5, Episode 8 – “Towelie”

The boys meet Towelie, a sentient towel created by Tynacorp. After discovering marijuana, Towelie becomes perpetually stoned and repeatedly interrupts serious moments by asking people if they want to get high. He would go on to become the show’s most prominent recurring marijuana-related character.

Season 6, Episode 16 – “My Future Self ’n’ Me”

After the boys find marijuana in the woods, Stan’s parents try to scare him away from drugs by faking a visit from his supposedly ruined future self. Randy later gives one of the show’s more serious anti-marijuana speeches, arguing that marijuana can make people feel comfortable being bored when they should be learning, creating or improving themselves.

Season 9, Episode 2 – “Die Hippie, Die”

A massive hippie festival overtakes South Park, with Cartman warning that the town is being overrun by “hippies.” Marijuana is not the central focus of the episode, but the plot includes the show’s broader satire of pot-smoking counterculture and jam-band festival culture.

Season 10, Episode 5 – “A Million Little Fibers”

Towelie writes a fake memoir while hiding both his identity as a towel and his drug addiction. The episode leans heavily into Towelie’s substance use, with marijuana again playing a role in his larger addiction storyline.

Season 14, Episode 3 – “Medicinal Fried Chicken”

When the town’s KFC is replaced by a medical marijuana dispensary, Randy intentionally gives himself testicular cancer so he can qualify for a medical marijuana card. The episode features one of the show’s most infamous marijuana storylines, with Randy and other men bouncing around town on enlarged testicles while smoking.

Season 14, Episode 7 – “Crippled Summer”

Towelie’s drug addiction becomes a central plot point in a parody of the show Intervention. Marijuana is included as part of his broader substance abuse problems, and the boys attempt to get him into rehab.

Season 22, Episode 4 – “Tegridy Farms”

Randy moves his family to the country and starts growing marijuana, launching Tegridy Farms. Towelie appears as a marijuana inspector and samples the product, beginning what would become one of South Park’s longest-running marijuana arcs.

Season 22, Episode 10 – “Bike Parade”

Tegridy Farms becomes more profitable during the Amazon worker strike, as strikers use marijuana while protesting. Towelie suggests marijuana delivery by e-scooter, tying the Tegridy Farms business into the season’s broader corporate satire.

Season 23, Episode 1 – “Mexican Joker”

Randy becomes increasingly hostile toward home marijuana growers, seeing them as a threat to Tegridy Farms. The episode kicks off the season’s larger storyline about Randy protecting his marijuana business at almost any cost.

Season 23, Episode 2 – “Band in China”

Randy tries to expand Tegridy Farms into China, only to be arrested after marijuana is found in his luggage. The episode turns the marijuana business plot into a larger satire of Hollywood, China and corporate censorship.

Season 23, Episode 3 – “Shots!!!”

Randy celebrates Tegridy Farms’ success while his family continues to suffer from his obsession with marijuana. Liane visits the farm to buy weed for her nerves, while Randy’s conflict with Towelie over the direction of the business continues.

Season 23, Episode 4 – “Let Them Eat Goo”

Randy and Towelie respond to the rise of plant-based foods by creating Tegridy Burgers, using discarded marijuana plant material as part of the product. The episode blends the Tegridy Farms storyline with a satire of fast food, vegan products and corporate food trends.

Season 23, Episode 5 – “Tegridy Farms Halloween Special”

Randy’s Halloween-themed Tegridy storyline centers on Shelly’s hatred of marijuana, which Randy treats as her “marijuana problem.” The episode continues the running joke that Randy’s obsession with marijuana has become destructive to his family.

Season 23, Episode 6 – “Season Finale”

The town turns against Randy after evidence emerges that he destroyed private marijuana grows and blamed “Mexican Joker.” The episode brings several Tegridy Farms plotlines together, with Randy facing legal consequences tied to his marijuana business.

Season 23, Episode 10 – “Christmas Snow”

After South Park bans alcohol during the holiday season, the mayor asks Randy to resume selling marijuana. Randy and Towelie create “Christmas Snow,” a holiday marijuana product that quickly escalates into an absurd cocaine-related storyline.

The Pandemic Special (2020)

Randy releases a “Pandemic Special” strain of Tegridy Weed during COVID-19. The special later ties Randy’s marijuana product into a bizarre attempted cure storyline, continuing the show’s use of Tegridy Farms as a vehicle for broader social satire.

South ParQ Vaccination Special (2021)

Randy and Towelie return to selling Tegridy Farms products, including “Pandemic Special” and “Vaccination Special” strains. The marijuana business is again used to parody the country’s response to COVID-19 and the vaccine rollout.

South Park: Post COVID (2021)

Set decades in the future, the special reveals that Randy kept the Tegridy Farms legacy alive by smuggling marijuana seeds in his rectum. Tegridy Weed also becomes part of the larger future storyline involving Kenny’s research.

South Park: Post COVID – The Return of COVID (2021)

Randy continues protecting the last remaining Tegridy plant in the future timeline. The special again uses marijuana as part of Randy’s identity and the broader time-travel plot.

Season 25, Episode 2 – “The Big Fix”

Steve Black opens Credigree Weed across from Tegridy Farms, creating a rival marijuana brand. The episode shifts the marijuana storyline from Randy simply running a farm to competing in a broader marijuana market.

Season 25, Episode 6 – “Credigree Weed St. Patrick’s Day Special”

Randy prepares a St. Patrick’s Day marijuana special, only to clash again with Credigree Weed. The episode continues the rivalry between Tegridy Farms and Credigree, with Towelie caught in the middle.

South Park: The Streaming Wars (2022, Part 1 and Part 2)

Randy’s marijuana farm becomes tied to a water-rights battle as Tegridy Farms and Credigree Weed clash during a drought. Randy briefly tries to abandon the marijuana business, but the storyline ultimately returns him to Tegridy.

Season 27, Episode 3 – “Sickofancy”

The Tegridy Farms storyline returns in 2025, with Randy and Towelie trying to save the struggling marijuana business through a tech-themed rebrand called Techridy. The episode ends with the Marsh family selling Tegridy Farms, making it one of the most significant marijuana-related episodes since the Tegridy arc began.

South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (1999)

No major marijuana-focused reference appears in the theatrical film. The movie’s humor centers primarily on profanity, censorship, Canada, war and the Satan/Saddam Hussein storyline, rather than marijuana or drug policy.
