Mike Tyson isn’t just preparing for a historic bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr., he’s also focused on the future of marijuana reform and the growth of his global brand, Tyson 2.0.
In an exclusive interview with The Marijuana Herald, Tyson spoke candidly about cannabis rescheduling, his vision for federal legalization, and why his company stands apart in a crowded market.
“I’m confident rescheduling will happen soon,” Tyson said when asked about his recent remarks that he would only take part in another fight if cannabis is rescheduled or legalized. “I know President Trump and his team are giving this real attention. He’s someone I’ve known for a long time, and I believe he understands how important this issue is—not just for business, but for people’s lives.”
Tyson added: “I trust he’ll make the right call. So yeah, I’m stepping into this next fight feeling good that things are moving in the right direction.”
While supportive of rescheduling, Tyson made clear that he believes descheduling is the ultimate goal.
“In a perfect world, cannabis would be federally legal and fully descheduled. Rescheduling is progress, but it doesn’t go far enough—it still limits access and keeps businesses buried under unfair taxes,” he said. “We need a system that lets adults 21 and over make their own choices, no matter where they live, and that rewards the people who helped build this industry from the ground up. That’s when the healing and opportunity really begin. In the meantime, I am grateful to be influential in making progress on the fight.”
On the impact of reform on Tyson 2.0, his rapidly growing marijuana brand, Tyson explained: “Tyson 2.0 is a brand licensing company, which means we’re federally compliant since we don’t touch the plant. We partner with strong operators in each state and give them a real edge in their markets through our brand. Those partners, though, face the toughest headwinds—high taxes, limited banking, and heavy regulation. If rescheduling helps them scale, it helps us too. I’ve seen how cannabis changed my own life, and I believe every adult should have the same right to experience that safely and responsibly.”
When asked what makes Tyson 2.0 stand apart from other celebrity-backed brands, he was quick to emphasize authenticity.
“Tyson 2.0 stands apart because it’s real—I’m not just another celebrity putting my name on a label. I live this life, I love this plant, and I’m deeply involved in what we create. People can feel that authenticity. We hold ourselves to a high standard with our products and partners, and that’s why our brand connects with people all over the world.”
Tyson also previewed what’s next for Tyson 2.0, including new innovations.
“We’re always innovating with our partners to bring new ideas to life. One of our newest launches is the Pocket Pigeon—a small vape the size of a thumb drive that packs a serious punch. It’s perfect for traveling or for anyone who wants a quick, easy experience without carrying a big device. It’s something the market hasn’t seen before and shows how far we’re willing to go to keep pushing the industry forward.”
Looking ahead, Tyson said expansion is the central mission.
“Tyson 2.0 is built for global expansion. We already have the strongest international footprint of any brand in the category, and over the next five to ten years we’ll keep growing into new markets and product categories—all while staying true to our brand. You’ll see Tyson 2.0 stores, cafes, and consumption lounges around the world. The goal is simple: to build a movement that represents excellence, authenticity, and the power of the plant.”
Of course, the immediate spotlight is on Tyson’s upcoming fight with Mayweather Jr., a matchup few thought possible.
“You know the state of boxing has changed so much. Even five years ago something like this couldn’t happen. But now people want to be entertained and there aren’t any fighters that have more global recognition than myself and Floyd, so it was a no brainer,” Tyson said. “I love fighting and to be able to do this at this era in my life is something I’m truly grateful for and enjoy doing.”
Asked if cannabis will continue to be a part of his training and recovery routine, Tyson didn’t hesitate.
“Yes, I don’t plan to stop using cannabis. It helps me relax and see things more clearly.”
He also expressed strong support for athletes’ right to use marijuana.
“Absolutely,” Tyson said. “They are able to drink alcohol, which is far more destructive, so they should be able to use cannabis because the plant is also a medicine.”
From the ring to the cannabis industry, Tyson sees himself as both a fighter and a trailblazer. With a blockbuster match on the horizon and Tyson 2.0’s rapid global growth, he shows no signs of slowing down—inside or outside the ring.
