Ohio Marijuana Sales Surpass $1.2 Billion and 15 Million Transactions Since Adult-Use Launch

Ohio’s marijuana industry has generated more than $1.2 billion in sales since the launch of adult-use sales in August 2024, according to the state’s Division of Cannabis Control.

As of October 11, total sales reached $1,203,154,452. Of that, $871,152,057 came from recreational sales, while $332,002,395 came through the state’s long-standing medical marijuana program.

More than 12.2 million recreational transactions have been recorded since last year, alongside 3.6 million medical purchases., combining for nearly 16 million.

Prices have also fallen to historic lows. The average cost of dried flower is now just $6.49 per gram, with manufactured products averaging $25.89 per unit. In August 2024, the average price per gram was nearly $10.

Ohio legalized medical marijuana in 2016, though dispensary sales did not begin until January 2019. Adult-use legalization came with the voter-approved Issue 2 initiative in November 2023, and sales officially began in August 2024. Under state law, adults 21 and older may legally possess up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana and 15 grams of concentrate, with home cultivation of up to six plants per adult (12 per household) also allowed.

With over 177 dispensaries now licensed for both medical and recreational sales, the state’s marijuana industry is continuing to expand rapidly. Analysts expect Ohio’s market to remain among the top in the Midwest, especially as prices settle and consumer demand grows.
