A new poll conducted by Susquehanna Polling & Research shows that the vast majority of Pennsylvania voters support creating a legal system to regulate and tax marijuana.

According to the survey, 69% of likely voters support regulating and taxing marijuana for adults 21 and older. That support rises to 72% when the proposal is paired with specific safety measures such as product testing requirements and safeguards meant to keep marijuana away from minors.

The polling also found especially overwhelming support for tighter oversight of intoxicating hemp-derived products. A total of 89% of likely voters said they support limiting unregulated intoxicating THC items, including Delta-8, to licensed and state-regulated businesses, while removing them from gas stations and convenience stores.

The results indicate that voters are not only comfortable with legal marijuana, but also support broader regulated marketplace that includes clear rules for sales, testing and youth protections. The bipartisan nature of the support is also notable, signaling that marijuana reform and THC regulation may have appeal that extends well beyond one party or ideological group.

The findings add to growing pressure on Pennsylvania lawmakers to establish a legal framework for adult-use marijuana while also addressing the rise of intoxicating hemp products being sold outside of the state’s existing regulated system. With nearly 7 in 10 likely voters backing marijuana regulation and taxation, and nearly 9 in 10 supporting restrictions on unregulated THC products, the poll suggests voters are ready for the state to take a more active role in overseeing the market.
