Virginia Medical Cannabis Sales Top $44 Million in Q1 2026

Virginia’s medical cannabis market generated $44,138,911 in sales during the first quarter of 2026, spread across 369,239 transactions, according to new data released by the state’s Cannabis Control Authority.

The total includes $15.08 million in January, $13.92 million in February and $15.13 million in March, showing a relatively steady pace throughout the quarter despite a modest dip in February. The state also reported an average price of $10.19 per gram during the three-month period.

March sales were led by bud, which brought in $6.42 million. Concentrates followed at $5.28 million, with edibles accounting for $2.51 million.

The state’s production data also shows a substantial amount of marijuana moving through the regulated system. Virginia reported 28,213 total plants harvested in the first quarter, along with a total packaged weight of 7,081,798 grams.

Virginia currently has 33 total licensed cannabis businesses, including 23 dispensaries, five cultivators, four processors and one testing laboratory. That business footprint remains relatively limited compared to larger marijuana markets, but the first-quarter figures show the state’s medical industry is still generating significant sales volume.

Virginia legalized medical marijuana in 2020, with lawmakers approving changes that allowed products to be dispensed through a regulated medical program. The state’s first legal medical dispensary opened later that year. Virginia would go on to legalize adult-use marijuana possession in July 2021, and adults 21 and older are now allowed to possess up to one ounce in public, but regulated sales remain limited to the medical market.
