Cannabix Technologies has delivered its Marijuana Breath Test products to a drug and alcohol testing clinic serving workplace clients in eastern Canada, marking another step in the company’s push to bring breath-based THC testing into workplace safety programs.
The Vancouver-based company said the delivery was completed through an authorized reseller. The clinic provides drug testing and related services for commercial companies, private businesses, government agencies and individual clients.
Cannabix says its Marijuana Breath Test, or MBT, is designed to detect delta-9 THC in breath, with a focus on identifying recent marijuana use rather than past exposure. The company said breath-based testing may help address concerns with traditional urine and oral fluid tests, which can detect marijuana use days or weeks after consumption.
According to Cannabix, the technology is intended for use in settings such as post-incident testing, reasonable-cause testing, deterrence programs and fitness-for-duty evaluations. The company says the system offers non-invasive collection and can be used in clinic or workplace settings, with results confirmed through LC-MS laboratory analysis.
The company said workplace testing clinics are a key market for the technology, particularly as employers, insurers and regulators look for testing methods tied more closely to recent use.
Cannabix develops marijuana and alcohol breath testing technologies for workplaces, law enforcement and other settings. Its products include the Marijuana Breath Test and BreathLogix, an autonomous alcohol screening device.
