A cannabis consumer advocacy organization will have a dedicated presence at the Great New York State Fair for the first time in the event’s history.

The Empire State Green Standard Alliance will operate a booth throughout the 13-day fair, which begins Wednesday and runs through September 7. Located in the Horticulture Building, the booth will provide information about New York’s legal marijuana market and allow attendees to join the organization for free.

“This is a historic moment for cannabis consumers in New York,” said Joe Rossi, chief strategist for the alliance. “Cannabis is legal in New York. It is part of our agricultural economy, it supports thousands of jobs and businesses, and millions of New Yorkers consume cannabis. Those consumers deserve an organized voice in the decisions being made about the future of this market.”

The organization will offer education on responsible consumption, legal marijuana products, home cultivation, product labeling, THC and CBD, New York-grown marijuana and the importance of purchasing products from licensed businesses.

Each day will also feature a special recognition honoring a policymaker, industry sector or group involved in New York’s legal marijuana market.

The schedule begins Wednesday with New York Governor Kathy Hochul Day, followed by days recognizing Assembly Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes and State Senator Liz Krueger, two lawmakers who played central roles in enacting the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act.

Other recognition days will highlight medical marijuana patients, dispensaries, cultivators, processors, home cultivation, the state Office of Cannabis Management and the industry’s workforce.

State lawmakers Landon Dais, Jeremy Cooney and Donna Lupardo will also receive individual recognition days for their work on marijuana and hemp policy.

The fair’s final recognition will take place on Labor Day and honor the thousands of workers involved in New York’s legal marijuana industry.

The Empire State Green Standard Alliance describes itself as a statewide organization focused on consumer protection, education and fair marijuana policy. Its board includes several people with government and regulatory experience, including former Office of Cannabis Management officials Herb Barbot and Linda Baldwin.
