“Reaching 100 cannabis dispensaries is a huge milestone that shows we are headed in the right direction”, says Governor Murphy. “When the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission was established, our administration’s goal was to develop a stronger, fairer, and more equitable model for the rollout of an adult-use cannabis market”. Murphy says he believes the state is meeting that goal.

“As we continue towards our goals for the cannabis market in New Jersey, I am grateful to the Cannabis Regulatory Commission [CRC] for their dedicated work and leadership on this critical area of our economy”, said Murphy.

Currently there are 102 marijuana dispensaries in the state, all but 12 of which are accessible by everyone 21 and older (these 12 are exclusive to medical marijuana patients).

There’s currently at least one marijuana dispensary in 20 of the state’s 21 counties.

“Dispensaries are not the only cannabis businesses opening. There are now more than 200 operating licenses in the state, including 23 cultivators and 15 manufacturers”, said Jeff Brown, executive director of the CRC. “With more businesses opening, we expect a competitive market that will be beneficial to consumers in price, product availability, and product quality.”

Earlier this month the CRC announced they the state will soon roll out new digital Medicinal Cannabis Program patient cards, and they will be free of charge for qualifying patients.

Last month the CRC voted 4 to 0 to approve rules establish a license for marijuana consumption lounges.
