Maine Issues Recall of Multiple Marijuana Products

The Maine Office of Cannabis Policy (OCP) has announced a health and safety recall for certain marijuana products, including dried flower, pre-rolls, and blunts, due to contamination concerns involving bacteria and mold.

The affected products, produced by Nova Farms, include the strain “Frosted Cookies” and were sold at 14 adult-use retail locations across Maine, including stores in Brunswick, Columbia, Greenville Junction, Lebanon, Lisbon, Mechanic Falls, Medway, Newport, Portland, Presque Isle, South Portland, and Turner.

The recall comes roughly a month after the state issued its first-ever marijuana recall in September.

According to the OCP, the recall is due to the failure of microbials testing, including elevated levels of aerobic bacteria, Enterobacteriaceae, yeast, and mold. The inhalation of cannabis products contaminated with these substances may cause symptoms such as sinus issues, allergies, headaches, dizziness, flu-like symptoms, or fatigue.

Customers who purchased the recalled products are advised to return them to the retailer or safely dispose of them. Anyone who has used the products and is experiencing adverse effects should seek medical attention immediately.

The photo above shows the product packaging for the Flower Cookies 1-gram blunts sold in 4-packs (batch number ending in 5185). Emphasis has been added to the photo to show where on the label consumers can find the product’s batch number.

All adult-use cannabis products must have a label displaying the batch number. Consumers are encouraged to check the label of their pre-ground flower, pre-rolls, or blunts against the batch numbers listed below.

The recall applies to the following products sold in Maine between September 17, 2024, and October 8, 2024:
