Poll: 56% of Voters in Kansas Support Legalizing Recreational Marijuana, Just 30% Oppose

According to the results of newly released polling, a strong majority of voters in Kansas support legalizing recreational marijuana.

The Emerson College Poll, which covered Kansas, Iowa, Missouri and Nebraska, asked participants “Would you support or oppose Kansas legalizing recreational marijuana?”

For Kansas voters, 56% said they support the measure, with 30% opposed and 14% undecided. If all 14% who are undecided chose to oppose legalization, the issue would still have a double-digit lead in support.

When asked “Would you support or oppose Kansas legalizing medical marijuana?”, 73% said they support it, 18% said they oppose it and 10% are undecided.

Under current Kansas law, possessing any amount of marijuana for any purpose is punishable by a misdemeanor and up to six months in jail. Possessing any amount for distribution purposes is a felony punishable by up to 51 months in prison. Growing more than four marijuana plants is also a felony punishable by 46 to 83 months in prison.
