Nearly 4% of Florida’s population is registered as a medical marijuana patient, according to new data from state officials.

The Florida Department of Health reports that as of March 10, 902,566 individuals are qualified medical marijuana patients, representing 3.9% of the state’s 23.3 million residents.
This marks an increase of approximately 2,000 patients since the start of the year and 29,350 more patients compared to February 2024.
Florida legalized medical marijuana in 2016, when voters gave approval to Amendment 2. The law allows those with qualifying conditions who receive a recommendation from a physician to possess and use marijuana. The initiative established a licensed and regulated system of medical marijuana dispensaries, with over 600 currently operating throughout the state.
Florida’s medical marijuana market generated $165,177,271 in sales in February, surpassing the $160 million recorded in January and marking the highest monthly total since March 2024, according to data released by the research firm Headset.
In January Smart & Safe Florida, the group behind 2024’s Amendment 3 to legalize recreational marijuana, has recently began mailing out petitions in an attempt to get a similar measure on the 2026 ballot after Amendment 3 failed to garner the 60% support necessary for approval.
