Ohio Surpasses 10 Million Marijuana Transactions Since Recreational Cannabis Launch in August, Nears $800 Million in Sales

Ohio has surpassed 10 million legal marijuana transactions since the launch of the state’s adult-use market in August, with nearly $800 million in sales.

According to data released by the Division of Cannabis Control, from August 7, 2024—the official start of adult-use marijuana sales—through May 24, 2025, Ohio retailers recorded $788,350,637 in total marijuana sales. This includes $539,950,864 in adult-use sales and $248,399,773 in medical cannabis purchases.

Of the 10,117,705 total transactions, 7,464,591 were from adult-use customers, while 2,653,114 were made by registered medical marijuana patients.

Prices have also seen notable changes since the market opened. The current average cost per gram of dried flower is $6.56, significantly down from $9.40 in August. However, it remains slightly above the all-time low of $6.30 reached earlier this year. A tenth of an ounce currently averages $18.55. For manufactured marijuana products—including edibles, tinctures, and concentrates—the average transaction is $27.62.

Earlier this week the Division of Cannabis Control issued updated an guidance establishing daily purchase limits for non-medical marijuana sales in Ohio, with the rules taking effect June 4. Under the new rules, adults 21 and older will be limited to buying 2.5 ounces of vaporization-ready cannabis flower per day. In addition, consumers will be allowed to purchase up to 15,000 milligrams of total THC per day in non-plant products such as edibles, tinctures, and vape cartridges.
