Today, Oregon Governor Tina Kotek signed into law a bill that allows licensed marijuana businesses to share and sell products at approved events, while also expanding rules around employee sampling.
Senate Bill 558, which passed the House 40 to 10 and previously cleared the Senate, was officially signed today. The new law will take effect on January 1, 2026.
The legislation permits licensed producers, processors, wholesalers, and retailers to provide samples to other licensees and authorized employees at trade shows and similar events registered with the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission (OLCC). It also allows wholesalers to sell products directly to retailers at these events.
Additionally, the law enables producers to offer employees samples of seeds and immature plants. All licensed marijuana businesses will also be allowed to provide employees with limited samples of usable marijuana, concentrates, extracts, and packaged products—so long as the transfers are tracked through the state’s OLCC system and follow regulatory limits.
Marijuana products can now be transported to and displayed at events such as the Oregon State Fair, provided they are properly documented and returned to a licensed facility. The OLCC will establish rules for event registration and oversight to ensure compliance.
Governor Kotek’s signature finalizes a measure supporters say will strengthen Oregon’s marijuana industry by improving collaboration and giving businesses new ways to showcase products.
