Anchorage Cannabis Sales Top $25 Million in First Three Months of 2025

According to data released by city officials, Anchorage’s legal cannabis market generated over $25 million in sales between January 1 and March 31 of this year.

The data from the Anchorage Finance Department’s Treasury Division shows that in the first three months of 2025, licensed outlets sold $25,655,639 worth of cannabis and cannabis products, resulting in $1,282,782 in tax revenue.

In January, sales reached $8,707,271, followed by $8,141,788 in February, and $8,806,581 in March.

With a population of around 291,000 based on the most recent U.S. Census data, the $25.6 million in cannabis sales amounts to about $30 per month for every resident in the city.

Alaska legalized cannabis after voters approved Ballot Measure 2 in November 2014, legalizing the same time as Oregon. Alaska’s approval of legalization came just two years after Washington and Colorado became the first to do so. The law, which took effect in February 2015, allows individuals 21 and older to possess up to one ounce and grow up to six plants for personal use, though public consumption remains prohibited. Nearly two years after the vote, the state’s first licensed cannabis retailer, Herbal Outfitters in Valdez, opened its doors on October 29, 2016, officially launching Alaska’s adult-use cannabis market.

In 2024 Anchorage’s cannabis market generated $108 million in sales, resulting in over $5 million in tax revenue.
