Massachusetts has generated over $803 million in legal marijuana sales so far in 2025.
Of these sales, $737.7 million came from adult-use purchases and another $66 million from medical marijuana sales, according to data from the Cannabis Control Commission. The updated figures run through June 15.
Since retail marijuana sales began in 2018, Massachusetts has now sold a total of $9.39 billion worth of cannabis products—$7.94 billion in adult-use and $1.45 billion in medical sales.
Despite a steady decline in prices—currently averaging just $4 per gram—consumer demand remains strong. The state continues to offer a wide variety of marijuana products, with 207 strains actively available to consumers.
Marijuana was legalized in Massachusetts in 2016, with recreational sales launching in 2018. Adults 21 and older can possess up to one ounce and grow up to six plants for personal use. Recreational marijuana is subject to a 10.75% excise tax plus the 6.25% state sales tax, while medical marijuana is tax-exempt.
Revenue from cannabis taxes is allocated among the state’s Marijuana Regulation Fund, municipal governments, and the General Fund.
