Ohio’s legal marijuana market surpassed $1 billion in combined sales in 2025, driven largely by the first full year of recreational marijuana sales.

Recreational marijuana sales totaled around $836 million during 2025, the first complete year adult-use purchases were legal. When combined with roughly $230 million in medical marijuana sales over the same period, total legal marijuana sales in Ohio exceeded $1 billion for the year, according to data from the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control (DCC).

Adult-use sales began in August 2024 after Ohio voters approved legalization in 2023. During the partial launch year, recreational marijuana generated more than $242 million in sales. By January 3, cumulative recreational sales since legalization had reached $1,091,250,807.

Ohio’s medical marijuana program, which launched retail sales on Jan. 14, 2019, has now generated $2,293,970,758 in total sales. While recreational access has expanded, medical marijuana continued to account for a significant share of the market in 2025, contributing roughly $230 million in additional sales.

Prices declined over the past year, reflecting broader market trends. The average price for manufactured marijuana products was $23.83 for the week ending Jan. 3, down from $26.66 during the same period last year, according to state data.

According to the DCC, there are currently 190 licensed dual-use dispensaries allowed to sell both medical and recreational marijuana.
