Missouri’s legal marijuana market set a new monthly record in December, generating $132.59 million in combined sales and pushing the state’s total for 2025 to roughly $1.53 billion now that the full year is complete.
New figures from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services show that adult-use marijuana accounted for $117.91 million of December’s total, while medical marijuana sales added another $14.68 million. The combined figure marks the highest single-month total recorded since Missouri launched regulated marijuana sales.
With December included, total marijuana sales for 2025 climbed to about $1.53 billion, well above 2024’s total. The final month of the year not only capped off another period of steady growth, but also confirmed that Missouri’s market continued to expand even as prices softened compared to the prior year.
Adult-use marijuana sales in Missouri are subject to a 6% state excise tax, in addition to the state’s 4.225% general sales tax. Applied to roughly $1.53 billion in marijuana sales for the year, the excise tax would generate about $92 million in revenue. The general sales tax would add approximately $65 million more, bringing combined state-level tax revenue from marijuana sales in 2025 to around $157 million, not including any local taxes.
