Montana’s legal marijuana market generated $27,384,763 in sales in March, bringing the total for 2026 to nearly $80 million.

Of the March total, $24,553,754 came from adult-use purchases, while $2,831,009 was from the medical market. This reflects the ongoing trend of recreational marijuana dominating the state’s industry, with the medical side remaining a small but consistent portion of overall revenue.

Through the first three months of 2026, Montana has recorded $79,513,956 in total marijuana sales. That marks an increase from the same period in 2025, when sales reached $76,207,745 across January, February and March. The roughly $3.3 million increase represents a gain of about 4%, indicating continued growth despite fluctuations in pricing and market maturation.

All-time figures further highlight the strength of Montana’s marijuana market. Since sales began, the state has generated $1,353,434,491 in total marijuana sales, including $247,191,137 from medical marijuana and $1,106,243,355 from adult-use purchases. These sales have produced $231,136,316 in total tax revenue, with the bulk coming from recreational transactions.

Montana voters approved marijuana legalization in November 2020, with the first adult-use stores opening in January 2022. State law allows adults 21 and older to possess up to 1 ounce of marijuana. Adult-use sales are subject to a 20% state tax, with local governments able to add an additional tax of up to 3%, while medical marijuana is taxed at a lower rate.
