Legal cannabis sales in Canada reached CA$482.65 million in April, according to new data released today by Statistics Canada.

The April total represents an increase from CA$460 million in March and CA$439 million in February, while coming in just above the CA$478 million sold in January. Combined, legal cannabis sales in Canada have reached approximately CA$1.86 billion through the first four months of 2026.

That marks a notable increase from the same period in 2025, when sales totaled CA$1.754 billion. During the first four months of last year, Canada recorded CA$437 million in sales in January, CA$408 million in February, CA$443 million in March and CA$466 million in April.

Overall, legal cannabis sales are up roughly CA$105.65 million so far this year compared to the first four months of 2025, an increase of about 6%.

April’s sales were led by Ontario, which once again topped all provinces with CA$187 million in legal cannabis purchases. Alberta followed with CA$83 million, while British Columbia reported CA$70 million and Quebec recorded CA$63 million.

The four provinces combined for CA$403 million in April sales, accounting for more than 80% of the national total.

Canada legalized marijuana nationwide in October 2018, becoming the first G7 country to do so. Since then, the country’s legal cannabis market has grown into one of the largest in the world, with monthly sales now consistently approaching or exceeding CA$500 million.
