According to updated data from the Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management’s Cannabis Market Monitor, adult-use sales accounted for about $17 million of the June total, while medical marijuana sales reached approximately $9 million.
The dashboard reports $206.80 million in sales over the trailing 12-month period, along with 3,366,303 transactions. The Cannabis Market Monitor combines sales reported through Metrc, the state’s seed-to-sale tracking system.
Adult-use sales have continued to increase as Minnesota’s recreational market expands. Monthly adult-use sales rose from approximately $10 million in January and February to $13 million in March, $14 million in April and $17 million in both May and June. Medical marijuana sales remained relatively steady at between $9 million and $10 million per month.
Flower remained the top-selling product category during the trailing 12-month period, accounting for approximately $101 million in sales. Concentrates accounted for $68 million, followed by shake and trim at $26 million, edibles at $16 million and nonedible products at $3 million.
The median retail price for adult-use flower was $14.29 per gram, compared with $10.84 for medical flower. Minnesota currently reports 194 adult-use retail sites and 36 medical marijuana retail sites, along with 99 cultivation sites, 39 manufacturing sites, eight transportation sites and five testing facilities.
Minnesota legalized adult-use marijuana in 2023, with possession and use by those 21 and older taking effect August 1 of that year. NativeCare, located on the Red Lake Reservation, opened that same day as the state’s first adult-use marijuana store.
Adults may possess up to two ounces of marijuana flower in public and up to two pounds at home, along with up to eight grams of concentrate and edibles containing up to 800 milligrams of THC.
Taxable marijuana products are subject to a 15% cannabis gross receipts tax, in addition to Minnesota’s 6.875% general sales tax and any applicable local taxes.
