Oregon’s legal marijuana market generated $77,616,234.56 in sales in August, bringing the state’s year-to-date total to approximately $607.5 million, according to new data from the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission (OLCC).
The August figure was down about 2.6% from July, when sales totaled roughly $79.7 million, and about 4.1% below August 2025, when retailers generated approximately $81 million in sales.
OLCC says its market data comes from Metrc, Oregon’s Cannabis Tracking System, and is based on information entered by licensees. Sales figures include purchases from OLCC-licensed retailers by both recreational consumers and Oregon Medical Marijuana Program patients.
The $607 million in sales in 2026 has resulted in around $103 million in tax revenue for the state.
For comparison, Oregon generated about $621.6 million from January through August 2025, based on OLCC-derived monthly figures. That means sales during the first eight months of 2026 are running approximately $14.1 million, or 2.3%, below the same period last year.
Marijuana prices have remained near historic lows. OLCC data showed usable marijuana selling for roughly $3.25 per gram in July, while concentrates averaged about $14.81 per gram, helping make Oregon one of the country’s lower-priced legal marijuana markets. The state’s market data tracks prices, sales quantities, product categories and other metrics in addition to total retail revenue.
Oregon voters approved Measure 91 in November 2014, legalizing recreational marijuana for adults 21 and older. Possession became legal July 1, 2015, and the state’s first legal adult-use retail sales began October 1, 2015, through existing medical marijuana dispensaries. Oregon later transitioned to its OLCC-regulated recreational licensing system.
Adults 21 and older may currently possess up to 2 ounces of usable marijuana in public and 8 ounces at home, along with up to four marijuana plants per residence. Recreational marijuana purchases are subject to a 17% state tax, while cities and counties may impose an additional tax of up to 3%, bringing the maximum combined rate to 20% in jurisdictions that levy the full local tax.
August’s sales bring Oregon’s legal marijuana market to approximately $8.72 billion in cumulative sales since the launch of recreational retail sales.
