Missouri cannabis regulators have recalled over 23,000 marijuana products due to improper testing by ClearWater Science, a lab based in Fulton.
The Missouri Division of Cannabis Regulation (DCR) stated that the products were not tested in compliance with state standards, making it impossible to confirm if they meet health and safety requirements.
Although no reports of adverse reactions have been received, the DCR advises anyone who experiences possible side effects to seek medical attention. Patients and consumers are urged to stop using the recalled products and either dispose of them or return them to the dispensary where they were purchased.
This follows a larger recall issued by the DCR just a month ago, which involved more than 132,000 marijuana products. According to MJBizDaily, this is believed to be the largest recall in any regulated cannabis market.
Missouri voters legalized recreational marijuana in 2022, and licensed retail outlets began operating in February 2023. The law allows those 21 and older to possess up to three ounces of marijuana and cultivate up to six plants for personal use. Missouri’s medical marijuana program, approved by voters in 2018, opened its first dispensaries in October 2020.
According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, there was a $111 worth of recreational marijuana sold via legal outlets in August, in addition to $15.15 worth of medical marijuana sold. The combined $126.15 million breaks the previous monthly high of $125 million set in March.
