New Mexico Marijuana Stores Sold $47.7 Million Worth of Marijuana in August, Over 1 Million Different Transactions

There was over $47 million in legal marijuana and marijuana products sold throughout the month of August.

According to data released by the New Mexico Regulation & Licensing Department, marijuana retail outlets sold $47,714,498.16 worth of marijuana in August, falling just short of but essentially tying the monthly record of $47,759,256.32 sold in May.

Of the $47.7 million sold, $14.4 million was medical marijuana and $33.3 million was recreational marijuana.

The total marijuana sales for July are around $2 million more than the $45.7 million sold in July. There was $46 million sold in June.

According to the Department there are currently 1,040 active marijuana retail licenses, as well as 851 producer licenses, 695 manufacturer licenses, 19 licenses for consumption areas, 46 licenses for couriers, six testing laboratory licenses and one license for research laboratory.

There was a total of 1,051,959 different legal marijuana transactions in New Mexico in August, around 23k more than in July.

All-time marijuana sales now stand at $675,621,045.78, spread out over 14,516,854 different transactions.

In New Mexico those 21 and older are allowed to purchase and possess up to two ounces of marijuana, up to 16 grams of marijuana extract and up to 800mg of marijuana-infused edibles. Marijuana is taxed roughly 5% at the point of sale. Recreational marijuana sales also have an additional 12% excise tax, with medical marijuana sales being exempt.
