Oregon marijuana sales saw a slight decrease from September to October, but there was still nearly $80 million sold.
According to data released by the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission, there was $78,623,246 worth of legal marijuana and marijuana products sold in October. This includes dried flower, concentrates, edibles, topicals and tinctures.
The $78.6 million sold in October is around $1.5 million less than the total for September, and around $3 million less than the sale’s totals for August and July. However, it is roughly on par with the $79 million sold in October, 2022.
Total marijuana sales since the first recreational marijuana store opened in October, 2016 is now over $6 billion at $6.066 billion.
In September the average price per gram of dried marijuana decreased slightly, from $3.87 per gram to $3.82 per gram. The average price per gram of concentrates stayed exactly the same at $16.
The $3.82 average per gram marks a 63% decrease from the average price of $10.50 at the start of legal sales in 2016. Marijuana concentrates have seen almost the same decrease (64%), with the average dropping from a high of $45 to the current low of $16.
Based on Oregon’s 17% marijuana excise tax, the state garnered around $13 million in taxes for the marijuana sold in October and over $1 billion since 2016. This does not include taxes garnered from the up to 3% citywide tax implemented by some localities.
Oregon’s marijuana law was approved by voters in 2014. Under the law those 21 and older are allowed to possess up to two ounces of marijuana, or eight ounces at home, as well as one ounce of marijuana extracts, 16 ounces of marijuana-infused solids and 72 ounces of marijuana-infused liquids.
