For the ninth straight month legal marijuana sales in New Mexico surpassed $45 million.
In total there was $46,515,533.96 worth of legal marijuana and marijuana products sold in November. This is a slight decrease from the $46,682,243 sold in October, and is a little over $1.1 million less than the record breaking $47.7 million in sales made in August of this year.
Medical marijuana sales in November were $12,077,929.04, a roughly $26,000 increase over the total for October. Recreational marijuana sales were $34,437,604.93, a nearly $200,000 decrease from October.
According to the New Mexico Regulation & Licensing Department, there are currently 1,048 active marijuana retail licenses, 13 more than in October. There are 2,866 active marijuana business licenses including 399 producers, 478 micro producers, 860 manufactures, 51 couriers, 23 consumption areas, six testing labs and one research lab.
Total sales since April, 2022 now stands at $865 million, spread out of 18 million transactions. The city with the most marijuana sales was by far Albuquerque with $290 million, followed by Sante Fe and Las Cruces with $64 million each, and Sunland Park with $48 million.
In New Mexico those 21 and older are allowed to purchase and possess up to two ounces of marijuana, up to 16 grams of marijuana extract and up to 800mg of marijuana-infused edibles, via legislation passed in 2021. Marijuana is taxed roughly 5% at the point of sale. Recreational marijuana sales also have an additional 12% excise tax, with medical marijuana sales being exempt.
