WA House Committees Passes Bill to Alter Possession Limit for Marijuana-Infused Liquids

Legislation that would make changes to the state’s possession limit for some marijuana-infused products has been approved through its initial committee.

House Bill 1249, filed by State Representatives Chris Corry (R) and Kristine Reeves (D), has been given approval in a unanimous 11 to 0 vote through the House Committee on Regulated Substances & Gaming. The measure must now be passed through one more committee before it can be considered by the full House of Representatives.

Under Washington’s current marijuana law, those 21 and older can possess:

  • One ounce of useable cannabis.
  • Sixteen ounces of cannabis-infused product in solid form.
  • Seventy-two ounces of cannabis-infused product in liquid form.
  • Seven grams of cannabis concentrate.

House Bill 1249 would change the 72 ounce limit for marijuana-infused liquid products to the following:

Seventy-two ounces of cannabis-infused product in liquid form unless the cannabis-infused product in liquid form is packaged in individual units containing no more than four milligrams of THC per unit; ((or))

(d) Two hundred milligrams of THC within a cannabis-infused product in liquid form if the product is packaged in individual units containing no more than four milligrams of THC per unit”.

The measure would make no other changes to the state’s marijuana possession limits.

The Committee on Regulated Substances & Gaming has scheduled a public hearing for tomorrow, January 16 on at least three marijuana-related bills, including one to legalize personal marijuana cultivation.
