United States: Over $1.8 Billion in Legal Marijuana Sold in May Alone

Among the states that have legalized recreational marijuana, there was over $1.8 billion in marijuana and marijuana products sold in May.

There are 24 states that have legalized recreational marijuana, with all but Virginia allowing licensed sales. Among these states, Minnesota, Ohio, and Delaware do not yet have marijuana stores open as they legalized too recently.

For the states that do allow sales and have an active market, 19 have reported sales data for May. The combined total for these states is $1.824 billion, up from $1.73 billion sold in April. These figures do not include medical marijuana sales.

Using data from state regulatory agencies and the research firm Headset, below is a breakdown of each state’s sales totals:
