Florida Young Republicans Endorse Amendment 3 to Legalize Marijuana

Today, the Florida Young Republicans on officially endorsed Amendment 3 to legalize recreational marijuana.

“As champions of individual freedom, supporting Amendment 3 is the obvious choice for Florida Young Republicans”. said said Megan Echtenkamp, Communications Director for the Florida Young Republicans in a press release. “We’re ready to move past the outdated stigma surrounding marijuana consumption and give Floridians the same freedom to consume marijuana that more than half the country already enjoys.”

Echtenkamp says that “By legalizing recreational marijuana for adults, we can empower Floridians with the freedom to make their own choices, while also generating significant revenue for essential public services and creating new job opportunities.”

The group’s endorsement of the measure comes just days after former President Donald Trump said he plans to vote in favor of Amendment 3.

Amendment 3 would amend Florida’s constitution to allow individuals aged 21 and older to possess and use up to three ounces of dried marijuana flower and up to five grams of marijuana concentrates. These products would be available for purchase at licensed marijuana retail outlets and medical marijuana dispensaries with dual licenses.

Smart & Safe Florida, the political committee behind Amendment 3 to legalize recreational marijuana, has raised $82.6 million as of the end of August.

poll released earlier this month by the Suffolk University Political Research Center, USA TODAY, and WSVN-TV, came to a similar conclusion, finding that 63% of likely Florida voters support Amendment 3. A separate poll released last week found support to be at 64%
