Ohio: Nearly $140 Million in Legal Marijuana Sold in Past Seven Weeks

Sales in Ohio’s recreational marijuana market have reached nearly $90 million, just seven weeks after its launch.

Recreational marijuana sales began in Ohio on August 6. Between that day and September 28, the state’s Division of Cannabis Control reported total sales of $87.1 million. During that period, recreational retailers sold 10,213 pounds of flower and 1,361,146 units of manufactured products.

During the same period, medical marijuana patients purchased $52,047,919 worth of product, bringing the combined total for legal marijuana sales between August 6 and September 28 to $139,171,008.

The price of recreational flower has seen a steady decline, dropping from $9.42 per gram in mid-August to $8.23 by the week ending September 28. Similarly, the average cost of manufactured products decreased from $31.65 to $30.04 during that time.

Since Ohio’s medical marijuana market launched on January 16, 2019, it has generated $2,057,179,715 in sales. Dispensaries have sold 285,178 pounds of flower and 16,874,574 units of manufactured products to date.

Ohio’s recreational marijuana law, which took effect on December 7, allows individuals aged 21 and older to possess up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana and 15 grams of marijuana concentrates. The state’s Division of Cannabis Control, part of the Department of Commerce, oversees the licensing and regulation of the marijuana industry.
