A recent poll found that 59% of Nebraska voters plan to support the legalization of medical marijuana in the upcoming general election.
On the November 5 ballot are two medical marijuana-related measures that serve as companions.
The first measure, the Nebraska Medical Cannabis Patient Protection Act, would provide legal protections for patients and healthcare providers who recommend medical marijuana. The second initiative, the Nebraska Medical Cannabis Regulation Act, would allow for the licensed distribution of cannabis to qualified patients, establishing a state commission to oversee its regulation.
The new survey, conducted by Emerson College Polling and the Midwest Newsroom, included responses from 1,000 registered voters in Nebraska. It found that nearly six in ten voters support medical cannabis reform, while 33% oppose it, and 8% remain undecided. The initiatives will be decided on November 5.
According to a report released earlier this month, legalizing and regulating medical cannabis in Nebraska will generate over $925 million in new economic activity for local communities.
Polling conducted earlier this year by Data Targeting Inc., commissioned by the Neilan Strategy Group, found that 70% of voters in the state support legalizing medical marijuana, indicating that support has seen a dip since February.
