Massachusetts: $151 Million in Marijuana Sold in November, Prices Drop to All-Time Low of $4.58 Per Gram and $129 Per Ounce

There was over $150 million in legal marijuana sold in Massachusetts in November, with prices continuing to drop.

According to the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission (CCC), there was $137.2 million in recreational marijuana sold in November, nearly identical to the $138 million sold in October. When combined with the $14.6 million in medical marijuana sales, there was $151.8 million in marijuana sold legally in November.

The year-to-date total for 2024 is now nearly $1.6 billion, with the all-time total standing at $7.04 billion.

In November, the average cost of marijuana continued to decline. reaching a new all-time low for the seventh consecutive month. The current average is $4.58 per gram and $129.7 per ounce.

According to the CCC, there are now 736 active marijuana strains available throughout the state, 27 more than in October.

Massachusetts legalized marijuana in 2016, allowing adults 21 and older to possess up to one ounce and cultivate up to six plants for personal use. The state’s first licensed marijuana store opened in November 2018.

Recreational marijuana purchases are taxed at a 10.75% excise rate, along with the standard 6.25% statewide sales tax, while medical marijuana sales remain tax-exempt. Total marijuana sales of $7 billion have generated over $1 billion in tax revenue.

Revenue from marijuana taxes is distributed among the Marijuana Regulation Fund, local municipalities, and the state’s General Fund.
