Ohio Legal Marijuana Sales Top $2.5 Billion

Ohio’s legal marijuana industry has surpassed $2.5 billion in total sales, according to updated data released today by the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control.

Since the state’s first medical marijuana dispensary opened in 2019, there have been 23,745,159 legal marijuana transactions, generating $2,506,831,743 in combined sales. This total includes $390,698,915 in recreational marijuana sales since the adult-use market launched on August 7, 2024.

The current average price for dried marijuana flower in Ohio is $6.91 per gram, an over 25% decrease from the average in August.

The latest figures, which cover sales through March 15, indicate continued growth in Ohio’s marijuana market. Adult-use purchases are subject to a 10% excise tax, in addition to the state’s 5.75% sales tax and varying local taxes. Based on this, the $390 million in adult-use sales has garnered the state over $60 million in tax revenue.

Medical marijuana patients remain exempt from the excise tax but still pay applicable sales taxes. Medical marijauna sales have resulted in $120 million in tax revenue since 2019.
