Missouri saw its highest-ever monthly marijuana sales total in March, reaching $130.88 million, according to data released today by the Department of Health and Senior Services.

This figure includes $115.76 million in adult-use sales and $15.12 million from the medical marijuana market.
The March numbers surpass the state’s previous monthly record of $130.5 million, set in December 2024. The surge in sales continues a strong start to the year, bringing Missouri’s total marijuana revenue for 2025 to $360.44 million through the first three months. That total includes $113.21 million in January and $116.16 million in February.
Recreational marijuana continues to dominate the market, accounting for nearly 89% of March’s sales.
Recreational marijuana is taxed at 6%, in addition to the state’s 4.2% sales tax. Medical marijuana, while exempt from the excise tax, is still subject to the standard rate. Local jurisdictions can also impose up to a 3% tax, which contributes to the program’s substantial impact on state and municipal revenues.
Based on this tax rate, Missouri has generated nearly $40 million in marijuana taxes so far in 2025.
Missouri legalized recreational marijuana through a voter-approved initiative in 2022. Adults 21 and older may legally purchase, possess up to three ounces, and grow up to six marijuana plants for personal use.
