Missouri marijuana retailers brought in $130.5 million in sales during August, bringing 2025’s total to above $1 billion, according to new data released today by the Department of Health and Senior Services.

Adult-use sales made up the bulk of the total in August, with $115.73 million spent on recreational marijuana and another $14.77 million on medical purchases. The new figures push Missouri’s year-to-date marijuana sales for 2025 above the $1 billion mark ($1.013 billion), underscoring the strength of the state’s market less than two years after launching recreational sales.

Since the rollout of medical marijuana in 2020 and the launch of adult-use sales in February 2023, Missouri has now recorded $4.418 billion in combined sales. Recreational transactions continue to dominate monthly reports, consistently accounting for nearly 90% of the overall market.

Under the constitutional amendment approved by voters in November 2022, recreational marijuana is subject to a 6% excise tax in addition to state and local sales taxes, while medical marijuana remains exempt. Tax revenue generated from marijuana has already topped $400 million, funding programs for veterans, public health initiatives and substance abuse treatment.
