New Mexico’s legal cannabis industry generated nearly $47 million worth of cannabis products in June, pushing the state’s total sales for the first six months of 2026 to $285 million.
According to newly released data from the New Mexico Cannabis Control Division, total marijuana sales reached $46,937,513.27 in June. Adult-use sales accounted for $37,193,443.20, while medical marijuana sales totaled $9,744,070.08.
The state recorded 842,530 marijuana transactions during the month, including 718,493 adult-use transactions and 200,030 medical transactions.
Through the first half of 2026, New Mexico marijuana sales have reached roughly $285 million.
Since licensed sales launched in April 2022, New Mexico has generated $2,356,300,722.28 in total marijuana sales. That includes $1,713,347,741.31 in adult-use purchases and $642,953,004.15 in medical marijuana sales. The state has also recorded 52,771,758 total marijuana transactions, with more than 40.8 million coming from the adult-use market.
New Mexico legalized marijuana for adults 21 and older in April 2021, with possession and home cultivation becoming legal on June 29, 2021. The state’s first licensed adult-use dispensaries opened on April 1, 2022. Adults may legally possess up to two ounces of marijuana, 16 grams of cannabis concentrate, and 800 milligrams of infused edibles. Cannabis is taxed at at 13%, in addition to standard gross receipts taxes. Medical cannabis is tax exempt.
Through June 30, adult-use marijuana taxes has generated an estimated $29 million for the state. The excise tax increased to 14% on July 1 as part of a scheduled annual increase.
