Washington Cannabis Stores Far Outperform Alcohol and Tobacco Retailers in 2026 Youth Compliance Checks
Washington marijuana stores have passed 92.5% of youth compliance checks conducted in 2026, compared with 84.7% for tobacco retailers and 82.7% for alcohol retailers. Just 7.5% of marijuana compliance checks resulted in an illegal sale, less than half the 15.3% failure rate for tobacco retailers and 17.3% rate for alcohol retailers, continuing a longstanding pattern of higher compliance among licensed marijuana stores.

CDC Proposes Marijuana Use Questions for 2028 National Health Interview Survey
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is proposing to add questions about marijuana use to the 2028 National Health Interview Survey. Adults would be asked how often they currently use marijuana and whether they consume it for reasons including recreation, pain relief, nausea, anxiety or stress, sleep or other medical purposes. The questions remain proposals and could be modified before implementation.
Federal Appeals Court Says Vacated Marijuana Conviction Cannot Be Used for Immigration Removal
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit ruled that a vacated marijuana possession conviction can no longer be used to classify someone as “convicted of” a controlled-substance offense for immigration purposes. The court rejected a longstanding Board of Immigration Appeals policy that allowed some vacated convictions to continue carrying immigration consequences depending on why they were erased.
JARS Cannabis to Acquire Sonoran Roots, Creating 27-Store Arizona Marijuana Retail Network
JARS Cannabis has reached an agreement to acquire Arizona-based Sonoran Roots, a transaction that would give the combined company 27 dispensaries across the state and create what the companies say will be Arizona’s largest marijuana retail network. Sonoran Roots’ eight Ponderosa Dispensary locations will eventually transition to the JARS brand, while its existing marijuana brands will remain in operation. The acquisition is expected to close by the end of the third quarter of 2026.

Aurora Cannabis investors appear overwhelmingly opposed to Curaleaf’s takeover bid, while Curaleaf investors are considerably more supportive, according to an informal poll conducted by The Marijuana Herald. Among 50 self-identified Aurora investors, 90% opposed the current offer, while 64% of 50 self-identified Curaleaf investors supported the proposed acquisition. The poll was informal and not scientific, and respondents’ ownership of shares was not independently verified.
Review Finds Cannabis Compounds Show Strong Anticancer Effects Against Cervical Cancer Cells
Cannabis compounds including CBD and THC showed anticancer activity against cervical cancer cells across multiple laboratory studies, including triggering cancer cell death and reducing invasion, according to a review published in the Journal of Cannabis Research.
