Florida’s medical marijuana program has surpassed 940,000 active patients for the first time, while also reaching a new high of 778 licensed dispensaries, according to a new report by the Office of Medical Marijuana Use.

According to the newest weekly report from the state’s Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU), Florida had 940,116 qualified patients with active identification cards as of August 28, an increase of 477 from the 939,639 reported one week earlier.

During the August 21 through August 27 reporting period, medical marijuana treatment centers dispensed 426,532,346 milligrams of THC and 148,061.352 ounces of marijuana in a form for smoking.

Combined with previously reported totals, that brings year-to-date dispensations to 14,659,171,166 milligrams of THC and 5,018,041.606 ounces of smokable marijuana.

The newest weekly figures were slightly lower than the prior reporting period, when dispensaries sold 439,096,212 milligrams of THC and 152,157.424 ounces of smokable marijuana. THC dispensations declined approximately 2.9% week over week, while smokable marijuana sales fell about 2.7%.

Trulieve remained the state’s largest operator, dispensing 110,000,492 milligrams of THC and 49,759.033 ounces of smokable marijuana through 170 locations. MÜV followed with 50,672,481 milligrams and 17,514.979 ounces, while Curaleaf Florida reported 46,106,170 milligrams and 15,874.660 ounces. Ayr Cannabis Dispensary sold 36,884,625 milligrams of THC and 8,564.444 ounces.

Other operators with notable totals included FLUENT, with 22,000,724 milligrams of THC and 4,235.710 ounces; Green Dragon, with 21,747,389 milligrams and 7,335.722 ounces; and GTI Florida, with 19,608,044 milligrams and 4,485.766 ounces.

Florida now has 778 dispensing locations, up from 776 in the previous report. The state approved two new locations during the week: a Curaleaf store in Miami and a Wildflower location in Jacksonville Beach.

Florida voters legalized medical marijuana through Amendment 2 in 2016. The state operates a vertically integrated system in which licensed medical marijuana treatment centers cultivate, process and dispense marijuana to registered patients.
