According to a source who contacted us directly, the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto VI will include gameplay that allows users to operate medical marijuana dispensaries across the in-game map.
The individual, who asked to remain anonymous, stated that players will have the option to run fully legal outlets that cater to medical patients, as well as take part in the illegal sale of marijuana and other drugs through an underground market system. The source described the dispensary management aspect as featuring customizable storefronts, product pricing, and inventory control, while black market operations would involve more dangerous but potentially lucrative missions and interactions.
We were able to confirm that the source is currently employed by Rockstar Games, the studio behind the GTA franchise. However, we were not able to independently verify the specific gameplay elements described. It is worth noting that GTA Chinatown Wars, a handheld exclusive, also featured black market drug sales.
Rockstar has remained tight-lipped about many features of GTA VI, offering few official details since confirming the game is in active development, and only releasing two trailers totally less than five minutes. If accurate, this new information would mark one of the most detailed marijuana-related gameplay mechanics ever featured in a mainstream title, reflecting the evolving legal and cultural status of marijuana in the real world.
As of now, Rockstar has not responded to a request for comment.
