There was roughly $250 million in legal marijuana sold in Michigan in March, the highest single-month since the start of legal recreational marijuana sales in late 2019.
In total Michigan marijuana stores sold $249,674,216 worth of marijuana and marijuana products in March, according to the Cannabis Regulatory Agency Monthly Report. This marks a roughly 15% increase from the month prior, and a 62% increase from March, 2022. Sales to date for Michigan now stand at $4,584,332,783.06, and the current average cost per ounce is $86.87.
Of the roughly $250 million in legal marijuana sold in Michigan in March, $239 million was from the sale of recreational marijuana, with $9.8 million coming from medical marijuana sales.
In March recreational marijuana sales were as follows:
- Flower: $117,652,502.72
- Shake/Trim: $17,542,145.34
- Concentrate: $15,162,389.03
- Inhalable Compound Concentrate: $17,850,895.73
- Vape Cartridge: $44,709,304.53
- Kief: $61,585.63
- Infused-Edible: $25,476,690.51
- Infused Non-Edible Solid: $594,254.16
- Infused Liquid: $769,641.82
- Infused Non-Edible Liquid: $37,912.66
The marijuana sales in March resulted in roughly $30 million in taxes for Michigan. Marijuana tax revenue is distributed as follows:
- 15% to cities that allow marijuana businesses
- 15% to counties that allow marijuana businesses
- 35% to the School Aid Fund to be used for K-12 education.
- 35% to the Michigan Transportation Fund to be used for the repair and maintenance of roads and bridges.
Michigan voters legalized marijuana in November, 2018. The law allows those 21 and older to possess up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana and up to 15 grams of concentrate. The first recreational marijuana retail outlet opened in December, 2019.
