Arkansas: $121 Million in Medical Cannabis Sold So Far in 2025, On Pace to Break Annual Record

Arkansas brought in more than $121 million in medical marijuana sales through the first five months of 2025, according to new data released by the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA). That marks a 6.3% increase over the same period last year.

Between January and May, Arkansans purchased 32,474 pounds of medical marijuana, up from 30,000 pounds sold during that stretch in 2024. With average daily sales now reaching $806,000 and monthly tax revenue coming in at $2.68 million, the state is on track to surpass the previous annual sales record of $283 million set in 2023.

Arkansas saw $275.9 million in medical marijuana sales last year, slightly below the 2023 peak. Total annual sales since the program launched in 2019 include:

  • 2024: $275.9 million

  • 2023: $283 million

  • 2022: $276.3 million

  • 2021: $264.9 million

  • 2020: $181.8 million

  • 2019: $31.3 million

The Arkansas Department of Health reports 109,854 active medical marijuana patients as of May, a 12.8% increase over the 97,374 at the start of the year.

Voters approved medical marijuana in November 2016 with 53% support, legalizing it for 17 qualifying conditions. Purchases are subject to a 6.5% state sales tax and a 4% privilege tax on cultivator-to-dispensary sales.
