June set a new monthly record for legal marijuana sales in Connecticut.
According to the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, there was $12,542,996 in recreational marijuana sold in June, narrowly surpassing the $11,363,587 in medical marijuana sold during the same period. The combined $23,906,583 in a monthly record for Connecticut, and it marks a $1.2 million increase from the total for May.
The total amount of marijuana sold since the start of legal recreational marijuana sales in January of this year now stands at $122 million, putting the yearly total on track to reach nearly a quarter billion dollars by the end of December.
For June, 53% of all marijuana purchased was dried marijuana flower. A quarter of all purchases were vape products, and 10% was edibles.
Connecticut’s recreational marijuana law was passed in 2021, with the first marijuana store opening in January of this year. Under the law those 21 and older can possess up to 1.5 ounces of marijuana which they can purchase from a licensed marijuana retail outlet. They can also grow up to six plants for personal use.
Under a new law that took effect on July 1, the personal cultivation of up to six marijuana plants is now allowed for anyone who’s at least 21 years old.
