Report: Oregon Has Cheapest Medical Marijuana in the US, Followed by Maine and Colorado

According to a new report using data from over 13,000 dispensaries across the United States, Oregon has the cheapest medical marijuana in the country.

At an average cost of $6.91 per gram, Oregon’s average medical marijuana prices are half the national average of $13.90. In second in terms of affordability is Maine, with an average gram price of $8.06, followed closely by Colorado at $8.19.

“The comprehensive study on the average price-per-gram of medicinal marijuana has revealed encouraging results,” said Josh Lamb, CMO for Leafwell. “Across various states, patients and individuals seeking medicinal relief will find a diverse landscape of affordable options.”

Lamb says that “These findings highlight the accessibility and affordability of medicinal marijuana in multiple regions, demonstrating a positive trend that benefits patients in their pursuit of holistic healthcare solutions.”

Rounding out the top 10:

  • Arkansas
  • Michigan
  • Ohio
  • Mississippi
  • California
  • New Mexico
  • Arizona

New York was, by far, the most expensive state for medical marijuana at $23.17 per gram, over 235% more expansive than Oregon’s average.

Currently there are 40 states that have legalized medical marijuana, as well as Washington D.C., though the specifics of each law vary drastically from state to state. Although the majority of these states allow licensed dispensaries to sell marijuana, not all allow dried marijuana to be sold and instead only allow the legal distribution of marijuana products such as tinctures and pills.
