In California, licensed marijuana sales have exceeded $2 billion for the first half of 2024, driven by strong sales figures in June.
The latest data reveals that there was $339 million worth of marijuana and related products sold legally in June, a slight decrease from the $350 million sold in May. This brings the total sales for the year to approximately $2.05 billion.
In June, the average price per gram for dried marijuana flower was $10, while marijuana concentrates averaged $18 per gram.
The distribution of marijuana sales in June saw the majority of sales coming from marijuana flower at $111 million, followed by vape products at $93 million, pre-rolls at $60 million, edibles at $38 million, concentrates at $18 million, and other products (such as beverages and capsules) at $17 million.
California, which legalized marijuana in 2016, allows those 21 and older to purchase, possess, and use marijuana, as well as grow it for personal use at a private residence.
In legislative news, the Senate’s Business, Professions and Economic Development Committee recently voted 9 to 2 to pass Assembly Bill 1775, which would legalize marijuana cafés. This follows the Assembly’s approval of the bill by a vote of 58 to 6.
Additionally, the California State Fair is set to make history later this month by integrating onsite marijuana sales and consumption, marking the first time cannabis will be legally sold at a state fair. This move is expected to further boost the visibility and acceptance of legal marijuana in the state.
