California Issues More Marijuana Recalls for Illegal Pesticide Use

California officials have issued a mandatory recall of two additional marijuana products for using an illegal pesticide.

On Thursday, the Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) issued a consumer advisory regarding the mandatory recall of the following legal marijuana products:

These products were found to contain chlorfenapyr, a pesticide typically used on leaves to control pests such as caterpillars, fungus gnats, and mites. This discovery adds to a series of recalls involving West Coast Cure (WCC) and other companies over the past few months for similar violations.

West Coast Cure, a leading brand in California with widespread distribution, informed MJBizDaily that all its retail products had passed compliance testing at state-licensed labs. However, the recently recalled items were packaged over 10 months ago and have likely already been consumed.

An analysis by MJBizDaily recently pointed out that many marijuana recalls occur too late to retrieve products that might contain harmful levels of mold or pesticides. In another instance, California regulators ordered a Northern California hemp grower to destroy plants in 22 greenhouses after uncovering illegal pesticide use.
