Maryland’s marijuana industry recorded $94,544,842 in total sales for January 2025, according to newly released data from the Maryland Cannabis Administration.
Of that total, $71 million came from adult-use sales, while the remainder was from medical marijuana purchases.
The average price per gram in January was $9. Dried marijuana flower led product sales, accounting for $54 million in revenue. Concentrates followed with $28.3 million, while edibles brought in $11.8 million. The remaining sales fell into the “other” category.
With January’s figures added, all-time adult-use marijuana sales in Maryland have now reached $1.209 billion, while medical marijuana sales stand at $574 million. Combined, the state’s total marijuana revenue since legalization has reached approximately $1.78 billion.
Maryland’s marijuana industry generated $1.14 billion in total sales in 2024 alone. Adult-use marijuana became legal in the state following a voter-approved ballot measure in November 2022, with sales beginning on July 1, 2023.
Recreational marijuana purchases in Maryland are subject to a 9% state tax and up to a 3% local tax, while medical marijuana remains tax-exempt. The Maryland Cannabis Administration oversees the industry, with its Division of Cannabis Regulation and Enforcement managing licensing and regulatory compliance.
A portion of the tax revenue is allocated to various state programs, including the Community Reinvestment and Repair Fund, which supports initiatives in communities historically affected by drug policies. Other allocations include funding for public education, substance abuse prevention and treatment, and administrative costs related to regulation.
