The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians will soon hold a series of public hearings across its eight tribal communities ahead of a summer referendum on marijuana decriminalization and regulation.
The referendum, listed as Referendum No. 2025-01, would legalize the possession, production, and distribution of marijuana on tribal lands. If approved, it would make the Choctaw Tribe the first in Mississippi to establish a regulated marijuana system.
The public hearings will feature representatives from the Office of the Tribal Chief and the Tribal Council, who will answer questions and provide details about the proposed policy shift. The hearings will run from May 12 through May 28 and are open to all tribal members.
