The “Cannabis Easter Bunny”: Police Searching for Man Who Allegedly Hid Marijuana-Filled Easter Eggs Around Texas City

Police in Lufkin, Texas say they are searching for a man accused of hiding plastic Easter eggs filled with marijuana across the city and posting clues to their locations on social media. Some online are saying they hope the “Cannabis Easter Bunny” evades conviction.

According to a press release from the Lufkin Police Department, officers received a tip about a Facebook account promoting a scavenger hunt involving marijuana-filled eggs hidden in various city parks. Investigators said the suspect posted four photos showing hints to the egg locations, along with a picture of five plastic eggs on a car seat.

Officers located four of the eggs but initially believed the fifth had never been placed. That changed the following day when a man and his granddaughter found the final egg and turned it over to authorities. Police say the total amount of marijuana recovered was just over a quarter of an ounce.

The suspect was identified as Avante Nicholson after investigators reviewed his Facebook account, which also contained posts referencing selling narcotics. Police noted Nicholson offered scavenger hunt clues to anyone who had “shopped” with him on the day of the event.

As of the department’s latest update, Nicholson had not been located and remains at large.

Numerous online comments referred to Nicholson by names such as Buds Bunny, Nugz Bunny, and the Easter Nuggy.
