Licensed marijuana stores in New Mexico sold $49,822,238 worth of marijuana and marijuana products in May, according to data released by the state’s Regulation and Licensing Department. This included 1,226,990 individual transactions.

Of the May total, $37,947,948.06 came from adult-use purchases. The new numbers push New Mexico’s marijuana sales total for 2025 to $239,646,337.38.

Since legal sales began in April 2022, New Mexico has now recorded $1,743,854,150.74 in total marijuana sales across 39,078,816 transactions. Adult-use marijuana accounts for the majority of that amount.

Among cities, Albuquerque continues to dominate marijuana sales with over $353 million in all-time revenue. Sunland Park follows with $127 million, then Hobbs with $78 million, and Las Cruces with $76 million.

Recreational marijuana became legal in New Mexico under the Cannabis Regulation Act, signed into law in April 2021. Adults 21 and older are allowed to purchase marijuana products and grow up to six mature plants individually or 12 per household. Recreational purchases are subject to a 12% excise tax, which will increase annually until it reaches 18% by 2030. Medical marijuana remains tax-exempt.
