There’s now 740 active strains available in Massachusetts’ legal marijuana market, according to data from the state’s Cannabis Control Commission (CCC).
This marks a 29% increase from the 572 active strains recorded in December 2023 and an impressive 84% jump from the 401 strains available in December 2022.

According to the 2024 Budtender’s Choice awards, held by Leafly, the best strain in the state out of the over 700 on off is is Chem D.
In November, the average cost of marijuana continued to decline, reaching a new all-time low for the seventh consecutive month. The current average is $4.58 per gram and $129.7 per ounce.
The CCC is currently considering licenses for public marijuana consumption in cafes, lounges, and events.
Massachusetts legalized marijuana in 2016, with the law allowing those 21 and older to possess up to one ounce and grow up to six plants for personal use. The state’s first licensed marijuana retail outlet opened its doors in November 2018.
