Rhode Island marijuana stores generated $10.48 million in sales in July, setting a new monthly record and bringing the year-to-date total to $68,774,958.

The updated figures, released by the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation, show a steady rise in both adult-use and medical marijuana sales throughout 2025. July’s total marks a significant jump from June’s $9.72 million, continuing the market’s upward trend.
Adult-use sales accounted for the vast majority of July’s revenue at $8.53 million, while medical marijuana sales reached $1.95 million.
So far this year, pre-packaged bud is the leading category with $29.68 million in combined sales. Raw pre-rolls follow with $13.63 million, while vape cartridges have reached $11.33 million. Edibles have contributed $8.25 million to the market, and unit-based concentrates have added $2.99 million.
Other categories, including infused pre-rolls, tinctures, topicals, and non-edible infused items, made up a smaller portion of total sales. Seeds have yet to generate any reported revenue in 2025.
Rhode Island applies a 10% excise tax on adult-use marijuana sales, in addition to the state’s 7% sales tax and optional local taxes of up to 3%. Medical marijuana purchases are exempt from the excise tax. Revenue from these taxes supports the state’s General Fund, Social Equity Assistance Fund, and municipalities that host marijuana retailers.
Under Rhode Island law, adults 21 and older may purchase up to one ounce of marijuana at a time and cultivate up to 12 plants for personal use.
